World War II Reflections Walk

Thursday. 19th February, 1942.

World War II reaches mainland Australia and the northern city of Darwin is bombed.

Move forward to today and join your knowledgeable guide who will take you back to that WWII era on a 2-hour walk through the historic quarter of the city.  Hear your guide speak the stories of that fateful day as you meander past the historic buildings of the time, and which have been re-built to provide lasting memories of life in the north during the War.

Enveloped within Parliament House is a Commemorative Wall honouring the Post Office and its staff who lost their lives in the first bombing raid and therefore no WWII tour of Darwin is complete without a visit. Your guide will escort you through the security screening point and into the Main Hall to view the Wall and Bombing of Darwin plaque.

Your tour ends at Bicentennial Park where you may peruse at your leisure the many memorials to Squadrons, Corps, and Units that were stationed in Darwin during WWII, including Z-Force.

Departs:
Raintree Park under the John McDouall Stuart statue, corner of Smith Street Mall and Knuckey Street. Look for the person in the bright orange shirt.
