See the sights and hear the stories that you’ll be sharing with friends for years

Welcome to Walk Darwin; a locally-owned family business specialising in small group sightseeing walking tours of Darwin City and the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens.

Your hosts, Nerida and John Hart, together with a passionate team of local guides, invite you to discover a taste of what makes Darwin tick, visiting iconic locations and regaling stories of Darwin’s frontier past. We provide visitors with a local’s perspective of life in Darwin today and what makes Territorians in the Top End a unique breed.

Walking and comfort is what we’re all about. You won’t see the little extras that we do to ensure the best experience for our guests, but rest assured, we’re watching. A change in pace, a stop in the shade or a helping hand where needed, makes the world of difference to our guests and we love nothing better than to spend a time with happy travellers.

Come and enjoy our Territory Hospitality!

I did the Darwin Street Art Walk and learnt lots about the beautiful street art in the CBD. The new artworks are fantastic. It’s a great tour to do.

We have spent nearly two weeks in Darwin and have seen some fantastic sights. Today’s walking tour was fantastic John spoke about the many facets of a fascinating city, he also showed us some sights that we hadn’t seen yet and wouldn’t have even known about. It is a great tour and I highly recommend it.

Welcome to Gulumeorrgin; Larrakia Land
Welcome to Darwin.

In the words of the late Reverend Walter Fejo… You have come by way of the Larrakia Land. You will hear the voice of Larrakia ancestors. When you leave, the larrakia message will stay with you.

The Larrakia have a deep, spiritual connection with their country and are responsible for making sure it is respected by all those that use it.

Walk Darwin acknowledges the Larrakia people as the Traditional Owners of the Darwin region.

I am greatful to the Larrakia elders past and present for caring for this land, it’s bounty and its people and thank them and the emerging generation of leaders for allowing us to walk here and tell their story.

Larrakia country covers Cox Peninusla to the West, Gunn Point in the North, the Adelaide River to the east and south to Manton Dam.

The Larrakia society had a close relationship and sea trade with the Tiwi, Wagait and Wulna peoples. Together, these 4 clans shared ceremonies, songlines and marriage.

There are many sites around Darwin that hold specific meaning for the Larrakia people such as Stokes Hill, Mindil Beach, Rapid Creek and Casuarina Beach.

When Stokes aboard the Beagle and Goyder’s survey party first arrived on these shores, the Larrakia peolple provided them with food. There was conflict and marginalisation as is common

when newcomers appear, however they were welcomed and participated in the cultural life of the early settlement.
